Sterile grain is commonly used to expand mushroom mycelium before the colonized grain is transferred to a suitable fruiting substrate.
Our grain bags contain approximately 2 kg / 4.4 lb of sterilized wheat grain, together with a self-healing injection port and filter patch for gas exchange.
The bags contain uncolonized sterile grain when supplied. After inoculation with an appropriate mushroom culture and complete colonization, the grain becomes grain spawn.
Fully colonized grain spawn can then be mixed with an appropriate mushroom substrate for the next stage of cultivation.
